Our team is heavily involved with outreach, spreading the message of FIRST to our community and drumming up interest in our team. We host many outreach events each year, like our Whiton Elementary School event where younger kids get to learn about our robots and how they work.
Our largest project so far (in collaboration with local FRC teams 56, 75, and 3637) was the Raritan Valley Science & Technology Showcase, a two-day event at the Bridgewater Commons mall that reached thousands of people. It included all of FIRST’s programs (FLL, FTC, and FRC) with a FRC competition exhibition in the center of the mall, FLL workshops, and FTC teams; had STEM exploration activities; and featured STEM scientists, organizations, schools, and companies.
We also run “Robotics Day”, an Arduino robotics challenge geared towards 8th-12th graders with no previous experience. We assisted the students in building, wiring and programming miniature robots to meet challenge tasks. Teams competed against each other in several categories for fun prizes. Many students got to learn more about what our team does.
